Trail Riding Tips with Children
By Harold Morrissette

Here are a few tips on Trail Riding Tips with your children.

  1. Make sure that they have taken a State approved riding course. The club offers them several times a year.
  2. Get them the proper clothing and protective gear. Gloves, helmet, Knee and elbow pads and a chest protector.
  3. Take them out to practice on a trail that is not over crowded.
  4. When riding in a group place one adult riding an ATV in front of the child riding an ATV and another adult riding an ATV in back of the child riding. If just you and your child are riding then I have found that making them ride behind you works better. You will have better control of their speed.
  5. If you have more children riding try to separate them, as this will reduce the chance of them competing with each other which could create a dangerous situation.
  6. Riding Children on your ATV with you. I do not recommend this at all but if you are going to do it at least provide the child with a helmet. We had some parents show up for the toys for tot's ride and their children did not even have a helmet on. If you were to stop suddenly the kid will smash his/her face/head into the handlebars.
