SALEM -- Randy Kolias, a 23-year-old Salem man, died last night after the four-wheeler he was driving crashed on the ice covering Arlington Pond, police said.

As he was coming off the tip of the island and trying to get onto some ice, the ATV hit some boulders and Kolias was thrown off the vehicle, New Hampshire Fish and Game officers said.

The accident occurred shortly before midnight near a big island in the middle of Arlington Pond, Salem police Capt. Robert Larson said.

Kolias was not wearing a helmet, officials said and died at a Massachusetts hospital.

Department of Fish and Game officers and Salem police, are continuing to investigate the accident.
